What have been the traffic trends in the past year? On average, these websites receive approximately 140 billion visits per month , and taking into account the mid-year recession, traffic trends in 2022 appear to have followed economic activity. There was a slight decline in mid-2022 and a recovery at the end of the year. The trend of search traffic for the same domains followed a similar pattern and represented approximately 18% of the total traffic for the year. We also analyzed search traffic trends for a few select industries to see if the landscape changed from one brand to another. Some sectors were seemingly directly affected by geopolitical and economic crises during the year, such as media, retail, services and technology.
Others appear to have been more influenced by seasonal variations in consumer demand, but one sector in particular has seen a downturn since peaking in July - check out the infographic. Even though the world has been affected by global economic changes and crises, most industries have shown growth and recovered their online search traffic levels at the end of 2022. Here we can see the year-over-year changes by sector that occurred from December 2021 to December 2022: img-semblog The Electronics, Beauty, Media and Food sectors all grew compared to the previous year. The Retail, Online Education and Travel sectors saw traffic declines, but not dramatically. The Service & Technology and Fashion sectors saw more significant traffic declines in 2022. What can we say about Google updates and SERP volatility trends? There were 10 Google updates confirmed last year , a slightly lower number than in 2021, but the State of Search study showed that the annual average appears to be increasing since 2017.
